About GYF

A national league of youth groups.

Empowering Ghana’s Youth—Together

The Ghana Youth Federation (GYF) is Ghana’s official apex platform for youth-led and youth-focused organizations, operating under the legal mandate of the National Youth Authority Act, 2016 (Act 939).

We are a non-partisan, inclusive, and youth-led movement that connects diverse youth groups across Ghana—from rural communities to urban centres, from student unions to faith-based organizations—ensuring every young voice counts in shaping the future of our nation.

With a membership base representing over 13 million young people, GYF champions youth empowerment, civic engagement, and national participation through structured platforms at the district, regional, and national levels.

🎯 Our Role in the National Framework

GYF was established in partnership with the National Youth Authority (NYA)—the statutory public agency under the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment—responsible for youth development, policy coordination, and programme implementation across Ghana.

The NYA’s mandate includes:

  • Operationalizing the National Youth Policy (2022–2032)

  • Coordinating youth programmes with ministries, departments, and agencies

  • Supporting youth leadership, entrepreneurship, and skills development initiatives

GYF acts as the youth civil society counterpart to the NYA, working to:

  • Unify youth voices across Ghana through federated structures

  • Advocate for youth-responsive budgeting, legislation, and inclusion

  • Mobilize youth for service, innovation, entrepreneurship, and governance

  • Influence national and international development priorities from a youth perspective
